Teaching Artist Abdiel Acosta helps a student understand proportions and perspective in a drawing class.

Abdiel Acosta was raised in Miami, Florida. He received a BFA in painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art. There, he was awarded the Presidential Scholarship, Maryland Institute Scholarship, National Art Honor Society Scholarship, and the William Ferguson Merit Scholarship. His work has been published in the Mystic River Press and the Latin Network for the Visual Arts. He has participated in group exhibitions in the ArtCenter/South Florida, O & Y Gallery, Alexey von Schlippe Gallery of Art at the University of Connecticut, Little Haiti Cultural Center, Miami International University of Art and Design, the San Carlos Museum, the Maryland Institute College of Art and New World School of the Arts. Abdiel has been a full-time art teacher at Miami-Dade County Public Schools since 2005, currently acting as the Art Specialist at Phyillis Miller Elementary School.

In 2011, Abdiel joined the faculty at the Lewis Arts Studio as one of our core portfolio technique instructors.  To see the amazing work he has done with our Lewis Arts Studio students this summer, please join us on Saturday August 4th from 2:00-4:00 pm at 101 Grand Avenue.
