Teaching Artist Yanira Collado.

A4L Teaching Artist Yanira Collado is a mixed media artist of Dominican decent.  After graduating from the New World School of Arts High School, she received a full scholarship to attended The Art Institute of Chicago for her undergraduate study. Yanira has exhibited in various group shows in Chicago, Pennsylvania and Miami. In 1999, Yanira began working in the arts with adults and children with disabilities at Little City Foundation in Chicago. Since then she has taught with numerous educational programs and organizations including the much beloved Shimmy Club.

Yanira began her work with Arts for Learning in 2010 and has since become a highly requested residency artist.  She has led students to convert park recreation centers in to full installation works, created larger than life-sized comic books (complete with costumed characters that leap from the pages!), and is currently working with the families of Liberty City as part of Arts for Learning’s Saturday arts series at the African Cultural Heritage Center.
